Your friend may reply after a while when you would have fallen asleep. Your sleep will be disturbed by the sound of the text message being received and you may find it difficult to resume your sleep.
  4. Don’t turn up the heat
    Many people find a temperature of 60 to 70 degree Fahrenheit comfortable for sleeping. In general, people tend to sleep better when the atmosphere in the room is cooler. Ensure that you don’t turn up the heat too much. Keeping the room temperature a little cooler will  help you sleep better.
  5. Don’t take a shower
    A lot of people believe that taking a shower before going to bed will be good for their sleep. But if you are habituated to take a shower in the morning, taking a shower just before going to bed will send a wrong signal to the body  and your body may associate the bath with the active morning time and prepare itself to be active rather than be sleepy.

You may be doing one or more of the above five things and be unwittingly creating conditions for sleeplessness. Avoid doing these and you will find sleep embracing you as soon as you hit the bed.

The risk for developing cancer is determined by the interaction between our genes and the environment which is  a complicated process.  This process is called “epigenetics.”  The environment communicates with our  genes  and  makes some genes to be in the ‘on’ position and some in the ‘off’ position. These changes affect the way your cells run the chemistry of your life. As a result of these changes, a healthy  body can be converted into  an inflamed and disease prone.  These changes can also activate cancer promoting genes that you may have in your body and intensify the chances of your developing cancer.

Hundreds of genes that increase the risk for developing cancer have been identified.  The BRCA gene is one such.  It has been found  that this gene can increase the risk of breast cancer up to 85% for people who consume a standard American diet. But you can lower this risk to 25% if you eat non-starchy vegetables  everyday  and keep yourself physically active. Thus the risk from the BRCA gene can be minimized by diet and lifestyle changes.

  1. A diet rich in sugar, white flour, white potatoes and other high glycemic foods. The rapid entry of sugar into the blood stream results in more insulin in the body which triggers growth signals to your cells.
  2. Increase in levels of heavy metals, plastics, solvents and other synthetic chemicals in your body. These substances interfere with the  normal signaling between your cells and affect which genes are on and which are off, thus increasing the risk of developing cancer.
  3. Inadequate intake of phytonutrents, the oxidants and vitamins in plants. These substances help the liver and the kidney to process and eliminate toxins.
